Background
A provincially legislated public agency with an annual operating budget of roughly C$100 million aimed to strengthen its team’s skills in Microsoft Azure DevOps to improve requirements management, testing, and overall product competence.
My Contribution
I designed and conducted a one-day training session for 108 participants across five groups, scheduled over two consecutive workweeks. This was a fully managed event because I arranged the hardware, software, venue, and catering, requiring minimal effort from the organization.
The training was designed to be hands-on within minimal presentation. I created twelve unique exercises that helped participants master the basics and explore new powerful features. Topics included: working with the backlog, working with templates, creating a delivery plan, understanding sprint boards, using Wikis, and multiple exercises to explore testing and test reporting features.
I closely collaborated with stakeholders to ensure the training met their needs, providing regular progress updates and delivering a live demonstration one month before the event. I also coordinated with their senior instructional designer to align training content with internal best practices and arranged participant surveys (five-level Likert scale) before and after the event.
Project Outcome
The training significantly improved participants’ confidence and competence with Microsoft Azure DevOps.
Before training, 21% of participants felt unsure or very unsure about using Azure DevOps, with only 1% feeling confident (none very confident). After training, no participants felt unsure, and 31% reported feeling confident or very confident.
The project concluded successfully in November 2024, delivered on time and within budget.
