As of (2023-08-01), I no longer offer this course at ACTI. I will continue to use this course as source material for personalized client workshops, available upon request. The reason for this transition is that I felt we could offer the students greater value with the Business Website MMVP course.
This business content development course is extremely useful (and received exceptional reviews), but after reflecting on my practice I felt this course did not offer the immediate benefit for our learners that the Business Website MMVP course provides.

Introduction
At Anderson Training Centre Institute, I have authored and delivered a tailored course, “Semantic Content for Business and the Web,” for new entrepreneurs in Alberta. It has been successfully integrated into the ACTI curriculum for multiple student cohorts.

Course Design
The course, initially structured as a one-day synchronous lesson, covers key learning objectives such as:
- Organizing information effectively using Google Docs
- Grasping the fundamentals of information architecture
- Creating web content for business websites
- Understanding web-based content semantics
- Applying typographic styles for visual hierarchy
Given ACTI’s non-formal assessment structure, the course emphasizes practical skills over theoretical assessment.
Instructional Approach
Instructing this course has been an engaging experience, thanks to the proactive and pragmatic ACTI students. The instructional approach centers around the following:
- Ensuring comprehensive coverage of content within time constraints
- Directly applying topics to students’ businesses
- Tailoring the exercises or content to each cohort’s specific needs
Various instructional methods are used to maintain engagement, including interactive presentations, group activities, class discussions, and follow-along tutorials. Active listening, real-world examples, and encouraging open communication among students foster an open and participatory environment. Adapting my pace and delivery style for learners less familiar with online tools has also been a focus.
Conclusion
Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, praising the course’s organization and its transformative impact on their understanding and skills in creating business marketing content and proficient use of Google Docs. This experience has reinforced the value of useful, engaging content tailored to learners’ needs in my teaching practice.
Reflecting on this journey, I am gratified by the substantial positive influence the “Semantic Content for Business and the Web” course has had on Alberta’s new entrepreneurs, contributing to their long-term business success.
